Metabolomics

Beside genomics and proteomics metabolomics is one of the main research fields in systems biology. One of the goals of systems biology is to understand better the entirety of processes that happen in biological systems.

Metabolomics is the systematic study of the unique chemical fingerprints that specific cellular processes leave behind, focusing on small organic molecules.
As analytical tools metabolomics uses primarily GC/MS, LC/MS and NMR.

For research in metabolomics and biotechnology GERSTEL offers:
  • Parallel and automated of biotransformations with aerobic or anaerobic organisms up to 20 mL scale using GERSTEL MPS Bioscreen
  • Screening of metabolite profiles via SPME-GC/MS
  • Sample preparation and introduction for GC/MS and LC/MS
  • Automated GC-Liner EXchange (ALEX) for reproducible high throughput GC/MS analysis of cell extracts
