GERSTEL Solutions Worldwide Magazine first appeared in 2000. Since then, it has developed into a full-fledged magazine that always covers a variety of news and applications, often reported directly by users of GERSTEL instrumentation. No. 10 covers topics ranging from flavors and off-flavors in beer and water; through odorous metabolites in urine after consumption of asparagus onto metabolomics, drugs of abuse, cyanide in drinking water and finally leachables & extractables in pharmaceutical packaging. In short, there is something to accommodate every taste, including some 2010 product news . For odor determination, the analysts have relied on the GERSTEL Twister, the new Selectable 1D/2D-GC/MS as well as the GERSTEL Olfactory Detection Port (ODP) to sniff out the causes. Our application specialists have developed a method for the determination of drugs of abuse in blood and urine based on Disposable Pipette Extraction (DPX) using the latest in LC/MS/MS triple quad technology with Dynamic Multiple Reaction Monitoring (MRM). We report on automated sample preparation using the GERSTEL PrepStation for metabolomics GC/MS analysis and a new EPA method to determine cyanide in water using GC/MS and automated sample preparation based on the GERSTEL PrepStation. Finally, as so often before, the GERSTEL TDS gets the last word. This time experts from Ciba Expert Services have determined leachables and extractables in food- and pharmaceutical packaging. Enjoy the magazine!
